Multi-level knowledge sharing service strengthening HEI international competitiveness and achieving institutional reforms
Intervention area (topic)
Experience/expertise
APRE has long-standing experience in designing and implementing knowledge sharing and mutual learning (MML) activities across a wide range of Horizon Europe projects, working at the intersection of research and innovation policy, stakeholder engagement, and institutional change.
In the framework of the CATALISI project, APRE has played a central role in facilitating mutual learning among Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) undergoing institutional transformation. This has included the design and coordination of interactive formats such as mobilisation and mutual learning (MML) workshops and twinning exchanges, all aimed at enabling implementers to share good practices, reflect on challenges, and co-develop solutions. Moreover, APRE developed a detailed methodology and plan for the implementation of the knowledge sharing and mutual learning programme among implementers. 7 MML workshops and 21 Twinning exchanges were implemented in 7 HEIs in real world settings on the following topics: Responsible Research practices, Open Science and Research ethics and integrity, Public Engagement & Outreach, Sustainable Finance in HEIs.To support HEIs in the implementation of this service, APRE, as facilitator of this activity, provides HEIs with a detailed Toolkit including checklist, templates, guidelines and guiding questions.
Beyond CATALISI, APRE has been involved in several other Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020 projects (e.g. TIME4CS) where it has developed methodologies and tools to support knowledge circulation, including communities of practice, reflective dialogues, and structured feedback loops between project partners and external stakeholders. These experiences span across different thematic areas such as bioeconomy, food, energy, mobility, climate, science for society, etc.
Thanks to this cross-cutting work, APRE has developed a mature and adaptable approach to mutual learning, grounded in participatory principles and oriented towards impact, capacity building and long-term institutional change.
Multi-level knowledge sharing service strengthening HEI international competitiveness and achieving institutional reforms
In order to enhance cooperation and competitiveness of HEIs, bridge the gap between HEIs in R&I and make science results in line with societal needs, this service aims to strengthen their skills and competencies in adopting institutional changes (within their organization) regarding specific R&I topics. The service adopts a multi-level knowledge-sharing model built on two core activities: • Mobilisation and Mutual Learning (MML) workshops • Twinning exchanges This service enables HEIs to build tailored roadmaps for change, engage with peers and develop practical skills to lead internal reforms. The service is rooted in the methodology developed within CATALISI (D2.1 – Knowledge sharing and Mutual Learning Plan), publicly available on the project website. For resources to be attached and published on the website, please see what reported in the Facilitators’ Booklet.
